The International Research Network (IRN CNRS) ENVIRONET, started in 2025, aims to understand and mitigate the impacts of environmental changes in
territories with varying levels of human influence. Three types of territories have been selected,
depending on their anthropization:
1) Urban areas, which are subject to intense pressures and host a significant portion of the global
population
2) Peri-urban and rural areas, which play a key role in food supply
3) Uninhabited areas as mangroves or artic tundra, that are ecosystems both fragile and essential
for mitigating the effects of environmental change.
Impacts are assessed from three complementary perspectives: the physical environment, social and
environmental vulnerability, and public health.
